Projects
One goal of the Lost Pines Garden Club is to support and perform projects which support our local community and which illustrate effective gardening techniques including plants and materials related to gardening. Special emphasis is on tips which help address the unique characteristics of our Central Texas area including dealing with drought conditions.
A recent project is "Bird Houses at the Bastrop Public Library". This includes installation of two bird houses (to start) by our Club as the Library. This will complement a comparable project at Fisherman's Park by the Rotary Club of Bastrop County. Click HERE for information on that project. Click HERE for construction information on "Samrt bird houses"
We did an installation of two bird houses with predator guards at the Library on December 2023. These bird houses considerably enhance nesting and propagation success (e.g., less threat from weather and predators) for nest families at this Library location. One unique aspect of the bird houses is a WiFi solar powered camera inside one bird house to allow remote viewing and recording (picture, video, and sound) of nesting activity. Click HERE for an example of a nest camera video. This project compliments nearby Bird houses projects (e.g., Fishermans Park) and Bird City Texas www.facebook.com/birdcitybastroptexas/ recognition in Bastrop.
